Traditional Wood Block Printing

I work with a lovely couple, Vikram and Sonu, in Sanganeer (outside of Jaipur). They continue the traditional process of wood block printing to produce beautiful table and bed linens, curtains, cushion covers for our store. They employ master craftsmen to execute these works of art, preserving these ancient techniques and making them available to you.

Fauzi & Indarti

I have been working with Fauzi and Indarti for over 15 years.  They are a very sweet couple from Kalimantan (Borneo).  They specialize in larger architectual pieces – gabiok (highly decorated entrance side of a home, including a central door and two side wall panels), Madura canopy beds, joglos (central part of a traditional Javanese house), gates and columns.

Enjoy the photos of the treasures we acquired this time.  Again, coming the beginning of May!

Andi – Kapok filled cushions

Andi is the owner of a small company that makes cushions – chair cushions, bolsters and upholstery for furniture.  He is a friendly and honest business man.  From Lombok, he has been in business in Bali for 10 years.  He has a small factory in Denpasar employing 6 tailors who make the cushions for him.

The cushions are filled with kapok, a 100% organic material that is harvested from the pod of an indigenous tree, that is soft and malleable, making it well suited for cushions.  Kapok resists bacteria and moisture, making it also allergy friendly.  It is a sustainable crop in that only the pods are harvested from the tree.  No additives, chemicals, pesticides or irrigation is used in the process and there is very little use of energy used in the production.   In addition, harvesting the kapok fibre creates sustainable jobs for local communities.
