Andi is the owner of a small company that makes cushions – chair cushions, bolsters and upholstery for furniture. He is a friendly and honest business man. From Lombok, he has been in business in Bali for 10 years. He has a small factory in Denpasar employing 6 tailors who make the cushions for him.
The cushions are filled with kapok, a 100% organic material that is harvested from the pod of an indigenous tree, that is soft and malleable, making it well suited for cushions. Kapok resists bacteria and moisture, making it also allergy friendly. It is a sustainable crop in that only the pods are harvested from the tree. No additives, chemicals, pesticides or irrigation is used in the process and there is very little use of energy used in the production. In addition, harvesting the kapok fibre creates sustainable jobs for local communities.
